Research

Over the past 10 years, I have compiled a catalogue raisonnĂ© of more than 450 of E. G. W. Dietrich's designs.  My research involves not only cataloging Dietrich's designs, but also locating extant structures and discovering the histories of the buildings and their original owners.  I have currently visited built projects in five states documenting both exteriors and interiors.

E. G. W. Dietrich is arguably the most prolific yet least studied architect of his generation.  My goal is to promote his life, work, and legacy of buildings in the Shingle, Colonial Revival, and Arts and Crafts styles.  I have had the pleasure of sharing my research with audiences at several historical societies including Bay Shore, NY; Warwick, NY; Torrington, CT; Jamestown, NY; Freeport, NY; and Scranton, PA.  As my research continues, I am working toward a monograph on Dietrich and his extensive and unique body of work.

I am always seeking additional information about Dietrich, his drawings, and the buildings he designed.

If you think you may live in a Dietrich house, have any knowledge to share about Dietrich or his work, or are in possession of any Dietrich drawings or watercolors, please reach out.
